축구에서 사용하는 용어를 회화에서 사용하기도 한다. 실제 사용하기는 어렵더라도 외국인이 표현할 때 알아듣기 위해서 알고 있어야 하겠다.
1) To kick off (something) : To start something.
ex) To kick off the meeting, I'd like to introduce today's topic.
2) He shoots, he scores! : To do something successfully.
ex) He asked a beautiful girl for her phone number, and she gave it to him. He shoots, he scores!
3) Move the goal posts : To change the rule to make it easier for you and harder for the opposition.
ex) I feel I am successfully finishing a project, but my boss moved the goal posts and made it more difficult.
4) To tackle (something/someone) : To deal with or solve a problem
ex) She has a problem in her project, so she need to tackle it.
5) To score an own goal : To make a mistake that causes big problems for you.
ex) He offered a 20% discount but I would have accepted only a 5% discount. He scored an own goal.
6) Keep one's eye on the ball : To focus, concentrate and stay alert.
ex) You're beginning to get distracted, you have to keep your eye on the ball.
7) Game changer : Something that completely alters the situation.
ex) Big Data is a real game changer for our company's marketing strategy.
